Bill Lishman’s Subterranean Dome Complex--

William Lishman is a Canadian artist who is possibly best known as the subject of the film “Fly Away Home.” This is Lishman’s home, which he designed after building an igloo out of snow one winter in the 1970s. He was impressed that an entire room could be heated by only body heat and illuminated with just a single match, so he decided to build a series of igloos and bury them in the ground. The resulting structure is cave-like, with its various chambers and curved walls, but requires almost no energy to heat and cool.
