being a vegetarian these magerly grossed me out.
Though I can understand that the people in poorer countries need to do this to survive. But the not so poor people that would kill there own cat and eat it for dinner make me sick. It's horrible the way people waste life without thinking about it and seeing these animals like this is sad but killing a dog is no worse than killing a pig. People just like dogs more, that's the only difference.

bleh, I really didn't need to see this.

I've tried frog legs a couple of times and trust me, its not that bad. I wouldn't call it as exotic meat as dogs and cats and lizards, even though u won't find it in too many places. actually frog legs are delicious, commenters!

Courtney: it's spelled "gross", not "grose" Read a book.

Rebecca: I take it you've never actually experienced real hunger? The kind that makes you wish you were dead? The kind that makes you look at your own appendages as though they didn't belong to you and would look mighty tasty barbecued with some mud-pies on the side? Don't talk like you know what it's like, because you don't. Also, what have chickens, cows and pigs done "wrong" to justify you eating them? Think before you post a comment next time.

All in all, this is a great post. Although I probably wouldn't pick monkey meat if I had an alternative, it's quite eye-opening to see how cultures around the world regard animals as sources of nourishment. After all, we didn't get to the top of the food chain by discriminating against "meat"...right?

Kudos to Nancey who said it best: "Until you see the poverty behind these practices, don’t judge."

Yum! Roast Cuye.

My adopted son from Colombia said his mom always kept a breeding guineapig in their kitchen; when they got "weak" (from their low protein diet) and she thought the kids needed meat, she'd kill a couple and voila, instant protein.

Until you see the poverty behind these practices, don't judge. I even knew Europeans who admitted eating cats and dogs at the end of World War II when starvation was stalking the destroyed German cities.
