		<description>Actually, orchids are in a completely different family than bromeliads - orchids are in the family Orchidaceae, while bromeliads are in the family Bromeliaceae.  As far as fragility, SOME orchids are not very fragile, while others are extremely so...since there are roughly 26,000 species of orchids, they have a very large gamut of habitats, size, color, shape, and adaptability.
