Worlds First Water Power Park
The Aguçadoura wave park in Peru – the first of its kind – converts ocean surface ways into electricity to power over 1500 homes. The snake-like structures float in the water, arcing and bending in compression and tension, and through their forces acting upon them pump oil through high-pressure motors which in turn drive electric generators. The power is then transferred to shore. Plans are underway to expand the existing 3-unit operation to have a total of 23 operating power generating ’snakes’ to produce nearly ten times the current energy.
